Tennis player is county Number One

Marton H (Y10) has become Cambridgeshire’s Number One 14 and under (14u) boys’ tennis player and is ranked in the top 50 in Great Britain.

17th September 2021 — Over the summer he qualified for his first national tournament and made it through to the round of 16. He won the 14u singles, doubles and men’s doubles at the county championships and won two 14u singles and one 16u doubles Grade 3 in the regional tournaments. He also came through two rounds of qualifying to make it to the main draw of his first Tennis Europe event. He went out at the round of 32 stage, losing a very tight match 6-1, 3-6, 6-7.

Reporting on in his progress to Richard Hill, Head of Tennis, Marton said: “Overall it was a very fun summer, playing tournaments every week in places like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Repton, Gloucestershire, Leamington, Letchworth and Cromer. I learned lots, gained lots of experience and am enjoying my tennis very much.”

Richard Hill told him: “Very well done on a fantastically successful summer. You should be very proud of yourself, and I’m really pleased that you are learning so much achieving your goals as well as enjoying yourself.”

The Leys School (Coed 11-18) is a day and boarding school in Cambridgeshire.
