25th February 2019 — The Aldwickbury Under 13 hockey team were crowned Hertfordshire County hockey champions for the first time at the tournament held at Oaklands College.
The group stages saw some very close matches and after two draws and a convincing 3-0 win they played Watford Grammar in the semi-finals. A late goal saw a narrow 1-0 win to set up a final against Hitchin Boys. The team defended well and took their chances in front of goal and a 2-0 win secured the title with the team not conceding a goal during the tournament. Deputy Headmaster and hockey coach Chris Schanschieff said “I am very proud of the boys’ hockey achievements this term. They have shown themselves to be a very talented group of boys and their hard work and determination is always clear to see”. The team will now represent Hertfordshire at the regional finals in the middle of March. As well as the County title the team also secured their place at the National Prep school finals following their qualification at a tournament in Cheltenham where they played some excellent hockey in beating some very strong teams.
